A recent study published in February 2019 demonstrated the efficiency of acupuncture for menopausal symptoms. In this Danish study lead by Kamma Sundaard Lund, 36 women out of 70 received a single, 15-minute treatment of acupuncture for 5 consecutive weeks. This pragmatic, randomized study showed those participating in the intervention, compared to those who were not, had a significant reduction in many symptoms, including: hot flushes, generalized sweating and emotional symptoms. The results are clear, women receiving acupuncture benefited from a quick, efficient reduction in their menopausal symptoms. This Danish study is great news for those practicing acupuncture all over the world, and those who are interested in receiving treatment, but not sure of the benefits. These standardized studies help chip away the concealment of ancient Chinese medicine, and inches all of us closer to a patient-centered, integrative model of healthcare for all.
